We are thrilled and honored to have designed four Ball & Chain Portieres for David Kummerow (a true gentleman and scholar) for his incredible home, The Swift House, in Belvedere, Illinois . Here are a few words from David himself:
"The home was built in 1898 by Dr. Swift who operated his Medical practice out of the home for some time. (I have the original architect drawings) He lived here until 1963, the home was boarded up for 20 years, opened as a restaurant, with leased offices on the upper bedroom level and gift shops on the lower level. Then it was a home for troubled children until we bought it in 1997. We did MAJOR renovation, including all new heating, air-conditioning, electrical, plumbing and decorating. We operated a B&B but not public, only to the Arts Community, ie. dancers, musicians, and related artists until my wife's death in 2006.
There are 4 levels, 23 rooms including 5 bathrooms, 1 main kitchen and 2 kitchenettes, theatre room, office with whole house wireless computer connection, exercise room, Ballet / Dance (large) room, full 12 stool bar with stainless steel sinks and food prep area, 7 bedrooms, enclosed & outside wrap around porches, widows walk balcony, 5 sets of pocked doors, 2 stairways, and more.
The home sits on a large landscaped lot with an additional landscaped lot adjoining. Outside streetlights illuminate the walkway and sitting areas along with well lit Patio, driveway and garage."
